Representation of Chinook ZA718
Four Chinooks were sent to the South Atlantic, however three were destroyed onboard the Atlantic Conveyor when it was sunk. The remaining aircraft, Chinook ZA718 Bravo November (BN), performed admirably despite a lack of spares and tools.
ZA718 was heavily involved in supporting the ground forces ashore moving men and equipment around. On one occasion 81 troops were crammed inside in a daring bid to capture the settlements of Fitzroy and Bluff Cove.
ZA718 now lives it the RAF Museum Midlands.
