Squadron Leader Thompson
In this 1941 BBC interview with John Thompson, commanding officer of 111 Squadron recalls the intense air fighting that took place over the beaches of Dunkirk often out of sight of the ground forces. John claimed two aircraft destroyed in the Battle of France and a further four during the Battle of Britain, giving him the status as an ace, he was awarded the DFC in September 1940 and a bar to his DFC in 1943. Thompson survived the war and retired from the RAF in the early 1960s.
