Guarding the church is a Statue of Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding. He was in charge of RAF Fighter Command from 1936, through the Battle of Britain until November 1940.

Before the war, he made sure Fighter Command had new fast and agile fighter aircraft, Hurricanes and Spitfires. He also came up with an early warning system for spotting and reporting enemy aircraft which used new radar technology. He made sure the country and the RAF were prepared for any enemy invasion attempt. Your challenge is to salute Air Chief Marshal Dowding.
