Low level Lancaster attack on German factory
Wing Commander John Nettleton
On 17 April 1942, a force of Lancaster bombers attacked the diesel engine factory in Augsburg. Unlike most Lancaster raids, the attack was made at low level and in daylight. It was hoped that this would result in surprise and greater precision. If successful, it would also have propaganda value. In this recording, the raid’s leader, Wing Commander John Nettleton, describes his experience.
