The Bristol Britannia and the RAF
The Whispering Giant
The RAF used twenty-three Britannia’s as freight and troop carriers. The Britannia was nicknamed the ‘Whispering Giant’ due to her speed, comfort and lack of vibration. She quickly became a mainstay of Pan Atlantic travel.
This Britannia was used as a freight carrier throughout northern Africa. On 13 December 1976, she ferried the first airborne delivery of coffee from Kenya to Jordan.
