Air Vice Marshal Lord Beaverbrook
William Maxwell Aitken was born in Canada in 1879. His talent for business brought him to prominence there and in 1910 he emigrated to the United Kingdom. Given a peerage In 1917, he assumed the title of Lord Beaverbrook and achieved great success as owner of the Daily Express newspaper. During the Second World War he held ministerial office under Churchill. He was a great public benefactor and a notable historian. He died in 1964 aged 85.
