The Medical Emergency Response Team in Afghanistan
Forces TV, 2017
The Medical Emergency Response Team was developed as a result of the high number of trauma cases experienced in Afghanistan. It was led by the RAF with tri-service clinical oversight. From April 2006 until September 2013 MERT was involved in the evacuation of over 6900 patients, allowing medical care to be given prior to arrival at hospital and by so doing improving the medical outcomes of many of the patients that it evacuated.
